Couple abandons deaf and crippled baby boy

Kwamikrom, (V/R), June 18, GNA - Madam Nura Alhassan, a trader at Kwamikrom in the Volta Region, has appealed to public-spirited individuals and organisations, to assist her to cater for a 10-year old deaf and crippled boy, whose parents have abandoned him. Madam Alhassan told the Ghana News Agency that Dziwornu Ahiabau's physical deformity is so severe that he cannot handle food with his hands.

She said his father, Mawuli Ahiabu, a chainsaw operator from Dzodze and mother, Mawuenanor who hails from Yieviefe in Togo, just dumped the boy and left without making provision for his upkeep. Madam Alhassan said the couple had been living with her in the same house for two years at Anlo-Kordzi Kwamikrom. She said Mawuenanor left the town in March this year, with her two other children and had since not been seen. The boy's father also abandoned him some few days after the wife left.

Madam Alhassan said she had reported the matter to the Kwamikrom Police and the Chief of the town, Nana Sike I.
