Couple, children enroll in schools

Sampa (B/A) Nov. 5, GNA - A middle-aged couple and their three children have enrolled in school at Sampa in Jaman North District of Brong-Ahafo. Mr. Jacob Kwame Obah is to pursue a programme in Science at Nafana Presbyterian Senior Secondary School, after completing the Middle School 16 years ago.

Speaking to newsmen in the school on Friday, Mr. Obah said he completed Sampa Roman Catholic Middle School in 1989, but left for Sefwi in Western Region to join his mother in farming. He returned to Sampa to engage in a number of jobs including cashew cultivation, sale of cutlasses and moulding of blocks. Mr. Obah said it dawned on him later that those jobs could not sustain him and his family so with the old adage that, "Knowledge is Power", he decided go back to school to acquire the requisite knowledge and skills in life.

His wife, 30-year-old Madam Jemimah Animah, who completed the Middle School in 1990 did not continue her education and remained at home as housewife but is now enrolled at local Catholic Vocational Technical Institute.

Their three children were also not enrolled in school until when the idea of "Knowledge is Power" dawned on them in 2002 and have been enrolled in the same school, Kasipe Memorial International Preparatory/Junior Secondary School at Sampa. Mr. Obah said he made sure that he did not indulge in truancy or any other negative activities during his time at the JSS and eventually obtained aggregate 15 in the 2005 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). He has promised to improve tremendously upon his performance in the 2008 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE), noting that learning was becoming more challenging and seemingly unbearable due to financial constraints.

Mr. Obah advised his contemporaries and semi-literates to emulate him and forge ahead courageously. The Headmaster of Nafana SSS, Mr. Kofi Wiredu Sasah, lauded Mr. Obah's decision and appealed to the Government and philanthropists to assist him.
