Couples urged to avoid divorce

Kwesimintsim (W/R), July 19, GNA- Couples have been advised to show love, patience and understanding towards each other and to desist from breaking marriage upon the least misunderstanding.

Mrs Mary Caroline Amegavi, Technical and Vocational Coordinator of the Ghana Education Service (GES) gave the advice when she addressed the first Anaji-Kwesimintsim Education Circuit Awards Day ceremony at Kwesimintsim at the weekend.

She noted that broken marriages have been throwing too many children unto the streets thus denying the children the needed education and parental care.

Mrs Amegavi regretted that most of these street children have ended up as pick pockets, drug addicts, armed robbers, gamblers and prostitutes.

She said children are valuable assets given to married persons by God and that they are the future leaders of every nation. Mrs Amegavi charged parents to take good care of their children and to give them better education.

She appealed to married women in particular, to exercise patience in their marriages in the best interest of their children and avoid seeking divorce on the least misunderstanding.

Mr J. C. Quansah, a retired educationist who chaired the function, advised parents to give their children the best education so that they could attain responsible positions.

He praised the organisers of the function and hoped the awards would encourage other stakeholders in education to give of their best in the promotion of education in the area.

Mr Quansah pointed out that education is the corner stone of every nation's development and urged parents, teachers, circuit supervisors, headteachers, and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTA) to ensure that the standard of education in the area was improved.

He also urged the school children to take their studies seriously to ensure that the investment that their parents were making did not go waste.
