Court adjourns NPP congress injunction case to Sept 26

A Fast Track High Court has adjourned to Friday September 26, a case challenging the congress date – October 18 – of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Two card-bearing members of the main opposition party - Rexford Agyei Frimpong and Oppong Kyekyeku – are seeking an interlocutory injunction on the congress that will elect a flagbearer for the 2016 elections.

The plaintiffs are praying the court to direct the National Council to grant more time for the congress.

Counsel for both sides requested for the adjournment to prepare adequately.

The two are of the view that the October 18 date is a violation of the party’s constitution and favours two-time presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo. About 140,000 delegates nationwide will be voting to elect a standard-bearer.
