Court convicts two brothers

Akim Swedru, Nov 11, GNA - The Akyem Swedru Circuit Court on Thursday convicted two brothers to a total fine of three million cedis or two years' imprisonment for transferring fire arm without authority and threatening.

Simon Kwaku Ketavi, a farmer, was convicted on his own plea of guilty to a charge of threat of death and Kofi Ketavi Galasey, a black smith, was also convicted for transferring a firearm without authority. Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector J. E. Appiah told the court that the complainant, Madam Comfort Awuku, is a farmer who lived at Aboabo village in the Birim South District. He said on October 15 Ketavi contacted his brother for a gun for a hunting expedition.

After taking the gun at about 23 hours that day, he went to wake up Miss Awuku for a discussion.

During the discussion, Ketavi told Madam Awuku that she had offended him and for that matter he was going to kill her and commit suicide. The accused pulled out the single-barrel gun and pointed it at her. He said Miss Awuku jumped from her seat, held the gun and shouted for help that attracted people.

They over powered Ketavi, seized the gun from him and when it was inspected one life cartridge was found inside the chamber. A report was made to the police and when Ketavi was arrested.
