Court discharges 7 Democracy Hub protestors

Some 7 Democracy Hub protestors have been discharged by a court in Accra after the state dropped all charges against them.

This development was shared by the X page of TV3 on Tuesday, October 22, 2024; which reads, "In a significant development, a court has discharged seven Democracy Hub protesters after the state dropped all charges against them."

The seven individuals were part of the 53 protestors who embarked on a recent demonstration over the illegal mining menace, popularly referred to as galamsey, in the country and the economic mismanagement in the country at the 37 Roundabout in Accra, where they clashed with the Ghana Police Service.

They were subsequently arrested on September 21-22, 2024, and charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, unlawful assembly, causing unlawful damage, and offensive conduct.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Meanwhile, on Monday, October 21, 2024, the Convener of the group, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, was released from police custody after meeting a GH¢20,000 bail condition with two sureties.
