Twifo Praso (C/R), Dec. 18, GNA - The Twifo-Praso district magistrate's court on Thursday fined a 25-year-old barber, Frederick Agyeman, 1.25 million cedis for allegedly assaulting and threatening to kill a 50-year-old woman.
Agyeman who pleaded guilty to resisting arrest and assaulting a public officer would go to jail for five months in default.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector George Okine told the court, presided over by Mr Seth Bio Nyamekye, that sometime in September 2006, the convict who was a regular customer of Madam Josephine Ameko's bar, kept some dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in the woman's kitchen.
Prosecution said Madam Ameko rebuked the convict for keeping such a dangerous thing in her kitchen.
Chief Inspector Okine said on September 10, 2006 when Madam Ameko returned home from a journey, her daughter told her that the convict came to the bar and wrapped some dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. Prosecution said Madam Ameko discussed the issue with some friends and when the convict got wind of it, he went to the complainant's house and without any provocation, insulted her and threatened to stab anybody who would attempt to aid the women.
Inspector Okine said the convict also vandalized the woman's drinking bar, and went into hiding until November 29, 2006 when he as spotted at the Twifo-Praso lorry station.
The court also heard that the convict assaulted the policeman who went to arrest him.
