Court jails cleaner for indecent assault

A 32-year-old cleaner at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital who indecently assaulted a six- year- old anaemic patient on admission was on Friday sentenced to 36 months imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.

Nathaniel Dzane who used his manhood to brush the victim’s vagina and inserted his fingers afterwards, pleaded guilty.

The court presided over by Ms Sedina Agbemava, convicted Dzane on his own plea.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarah Acquah told the court that the victim lived with her single mother at Kasoa in the Central Region.

The victim, who was suffering from anaemia, was admitted at the Children's Ward of the hospital on March 6, this year.

The prosecution said on the same day, Dzane went to clean the children’s ward while the victim’s mother went on an errand outside the hospital.

She said when the convict reached the ward, the victim requested him to escort her to the washroom to which the accused readily obliged.

ASP Acquah said after the victim had finished urinating, the convict could not resist the temptation of seeing the victim’s vagina so he quickly unzipped and used his manhood to brush the victim’s vagina several times and not satisfied with his conduct, inserted his fingers into her vagina.

When the victim’s mother returned she disclosed her ordeal to her mother who informed the hospital authorities and the convict was handed over to the Police.

The Police issued a medical form to the victim for examination and treatment.**
