Court orders arrest of Ex-Prison Officer

A Circuit Court in Accra has ordered the arrest of an ex- prison officer for failing to appear before it to answer a charge of forgery leveled against her. Josephine Amponsah, is accused of forging appointment letters with forged signatures for four persons to be enlisted into the Ghana Prison Service.

When the case was called Josephine was not in court and the prosecuting officer Chief Inspector Charles Chester prayed the court for a bench warrant to arrest her. The court presided over by Ms Ellen Vivian Amoah ordered the arrest of Josephine.

Chief Inspector Chester told the court that the complainant in the matter was Mr Anthony K. Yeboah, Director of Ghana Prisons in charge of Training. During the month of July 2012, successful candidates, who applied to be enlisted into the Prison Service reported at the Prison Service Training School to undergo training.

Four people namely Janet Keyerewa, Michael Appiah Kubi, Obuor Sampson and Mable Frimpong did not have their names on the master list but reported for training. During interrogation, the above mentioned persons disclosed that it was the accused person who provided them with forged appointment letter with signatures. Josephine was arrested and sent to the Cantonments Police Station.
