Court remands driver’s mate for robbery

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded Ishmael Abisiru, a driver’s mate, into police custody for conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

He pleaded not guilty and would reappear before the Court on November 10.

Prosecuting Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kwaku Bempeh told the Court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh that the complainant in the case is a trader.

He said on October 21, at about 02:00 hours, the complainant and the son closed from their shop and were on their way home, when they saw two boys coming towards them.

He said the two boys got closer and pulled out cutlass and threatened to kill the complainant and her son, if they refuse to surrender all their monies and mobile phones to them.

The prosecution said the complainant asked the son to give her hand bag containing a mobile phone and cash in the sum of GH? 700.00 to the boys.

“Not satisfied, Ishmael conducted a search in the complainant son’s pocket and found his Motorola phone and cash of GH?250.00 and bolted with the items,” he added.

DSP Bempeh said in the morning, the complainant narrated the case to a taxi driver, who led them to a popular drinking bar, where the youth with questionable characters used to hangout and Ishmael was seen there.

He said a complaint was made to the police and quickly, he was apprehended and when questioned, he admitted and led the police to the bar, where he handed over the Motorola phone and a cash of GH?65.00 to the police.

In his caution statement, the accused admitted the offence and mentioned one Bellem as an accomplice, who is at large.
