Court remands farmer for defiling step daughter

A 48-year-old farmer who allegedly defiled his step daughter after forcing her to drink Akpeteshie, a local gin mixed with and coca cola, on Wednesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.

Maxwell Kofi Etuah, charged with defilement had his plea reserved.

The court presided over by Miss Sedina Agbemeva remanded him into Police custody to reappear on March 20.

Police Chief Inspector J.K. Anim, the prosecutor told the court that the complainant was the biological father of the 13-year –old victim. The victim’s mother is married to the accused and they both reside at New Aplaku in Accra.

Chief Inspector Anim said sometime in October 2011, the victim travelled with her mother to their hometown but she returned earlier to Accra because she had to attend school.

He said during her mother’s absence, Etuah offered the alcoholic laced substance to the victim and she became intoxicated, after which the accused defiled her.

Chief Inspector Anim said after the act, the victim bled and Etuah warned her not to tell anyone else she would die.

He said since the act, Etuah had been touching and fondling her breast whenever people were not around.

On January 2, this year, the victim’s mother travelled again and Etuah defiled the victim, but this time round she experienced some unbearable abdominal pains and could not walk.

The prosecutor said the victim then let the cat out of the bag and informed her biological father who reported the matter to the Police and she was issued with a medical form for examination and treatment.

The report issued from Kasoa Government Hospital indicated that the victim had been sexually abused, and during interrogation, Etuah admitted the offence.
