Court remands three suspected murderers

Nkawie (Ash), June 18, GNA - An angry crowd on Wednesday besieged the Nkawie Magistrate's Court when three suspects alleged to have murdered one Opanin Poku, a 50-year-old farmer at Mpasatia made their appearance.

The police had a hectic time controlling the crowd as Osei Kwabena, 40, a businessman alias 'Guy You', Francis Donkor, 28, Osei's driver and Kwabena Amadu alias 'Wofa Amadu', 29, a farmer were being led into a taxi to be taken into custody. The crowd had surged forward in an attempt to forcibly take the culprits away from the police to administer instant justice.

Their plea was not taken and the court refused them bail in spite of pleas from their counsel.

Police Inspector Joseph Gabienu had earlier raised an objection to bail arguing that it was premature.

The court, however, acquitted Madam Constance Fordjour, alias Nana Afua, a 33-year-old trader who was jointly charged with the three accused persons.

The police told the Ghana News Agency in an interview later that the woman would assist the police as a witness.

Opanin Poku was found dead about a month ago in the bush at Mpasatia with some of hid body parts removed.
