Court remands welder for murder

A Kumasi High Court presided over by Justice R. C. Azumah, has remanded a welder, accused of murdering his younger brother, into prison custody.

Sam Kwabena Boateng, 48, is said to have stabbed the deceased in the abdomen during a fight.

He pleaded not guilty and insisted that he acted in self-defense.

He would reappear on Monday, March 26.

A State Attorney, William Kwadwo Otoo-Boison, told the court that the accused lives abroad and has built a house at Gyinyase in Kumasi, and that the house is occupied by his extended family.

The prosecution said Boateng returned to the country on July 23, 2009, and saw that all the rooms had been taken over and he had no place or room to sleep in to keep his belongings.

The next morning he confronted the deceased, Charles Kwasi Antwi, and demanded to know why there was no room for him in his own house.

Tempers flared and resulted in a fight, during which the accused stabbed Antwi with a knife.

The deceased was pronounced dead on arrival at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. **
