The Covid-19 National Trust Fund has donated large quantities of food items and drinks to some six children homes, shelters and resource centres in the Greater Accra Region to boost their feeding capacities as the country battles to contain the novel Coronavirus, Covid-19.

The donations were carried out at the Osu Children’s Home where representatives of the other residential homes gathered to receive their portion of the items.

The donation is in fulfillment of the mandate of the Covid-19 National Trust Fund establishment by an Act of Parliament, (Act 1013) to complement government efforts aimed at mitigating the impact of the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in Ghana.

Among the residential homes and shelters who received the items were the Teshie Home, Fern House Pregnancy and Resource Centre, New Life Nungua Children’s Home, The Osu Children’s Home, Helpage Ghana and Shelter for the Abused Children in Osu.

In her address ahead of the presentation, Chief Justice (Rtd) and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Covid-19 National Trust Fund, Sophia Akuffo, indicated that the selection of the six beneficiary institutions was based on broad consultations as well as on data provided by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.

“The formula for allocation of donated items for distribution took into account the population of dependents of the selected residential homes, shelters & resource centres and advocacy groups,” Justice (Rtd) Sophia Akuffo said.

She admonished the receiving institutions to ensure immediate distribution of the food and drinks to the inmates and children in their care for their nourishment.

“We expect that the items you are receiving will be allocated speedily to vulnerable and needy dependants of your organizations,” the lead Trustee stated.

Among the items presented by the Trust Fund to the residential homes, shelters and resource centres were thousands of boxes of indomie, thousands of boxes of Tampico soft drinks, several hundreds of boxes of cereals, several hundreds of veronica buckets with its stands and hand sanitizers.
