Tanfiano (B/A) June 11, GNA - Mr Hayford Francis Amoako, Member of Parliament for Nkoranza, has explained that the creation of the new districts and additional constituencies was aimed at accelerating development of the communities.
He was addressing the people of Tanfiano Number One and Bodom, both in the Nkoranza North Constituency at a meeting to announce his decision to contest the parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress.
The MP said the programme initiated by the government was very laudable and was of great foresight, as it would promote decentralization.
Mr Amoako commended the Electoral Commission (EC) for including Nkoranza in the programme, saying that two Parliamentarians in the area would make for better interaction with the electorate. He explained that Nkoranza consisted of 295 communities and it was a burden for one Parliamentarian to manage.
Mr Amoako called on the people to vote for him in Election2004 to enable him to continue with his work in Parliament and serve Nkoranza. He commended the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government for continuing with the NDC's programme of providing electricity, health, education, water and sanitation facilities in the rural communities, which were hitherto only in the urban centres.
"As the Government of the New Patriotic Party is continuing with such programmes, there should be nothing wrong if NDC is voted back to carry on with the plans and programmes it initiated", he said. Mr Amoako appealed to the people to shun negative acts that could mar the impending elections and to ensure that the exercise was conducted in a peaceful and transparent manner.
