MyNewsGh.com has confirmed that eight persons who are all members of the Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF), championing the partitioning of the Volta Region as an independent state will be arraigned before a court today on a provisional charge of treason.

The eight including the leader, Mr. Charles Kormi Kudzodzi, popularly known as Papa Hogbedetor were arrested on Sunday evening while at what George Nyakpo revealed was a consultative meeting ahead of the declaration of the Western Togoland as an Independent State on Wednesday, May 8, 2019.

Police confirmed that the suspects were arrested and airlifted via a chopper to Accra where they are set to make an appearance before a court today May 7, 2019.

Mr Kudzordzi who is over 80 and claims to have the history of the plebiscite that added Volta Region to Ghana at his fingertips, has championed the independence of the Volta region from present-day Ghana.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has revealed that it had sufficient evidence from the group it was readying itself for the declaration of its independence on May 8, 2019, with a draft constitution, national emblem and anthem prepared by these persons and others for their supposed country.

It added that activities of the group also include illegally recruiting and training young people in a “militia style” for them to form the core of their supposed country’s armed forces and police force.

The Ghana Police Service is, therefore, holding all eight to assist them in their investigations in the matter which breaches the country’s security.
