Accra, July 19, GNA - The Interior Minister has on the advice of the Upper East Regional Security Council, and by Executive Instrument, reviewed and renewed for a week the curfew imposed on the Bawku Municipality and its environs.
A statement signed by Mr Martin A.B.K. Amidu in Accra said it took effect from Monday, July 19, and the curfew hours reviewed from 10:00 pm to 5:00am each day.
Previously, the curfew hours were from 6:00pm to 6:00am each day.
The statement said: "Government continues to be encouraged by the sustained peace in Bawku and its environs and appeals to the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth and people of the area to be tolerant of each other to ensure Bawku regains its status as a commercial hub in the Region".
Government reiterated that there was a ban on all persons in the Bawku Municipality and its immediate environs - Zabugu, Binduri, Pusiga and Zoasi from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons and any person found violating the directive would be arrested and prosecuted.
