A 35-YEAR-OLD wayside currency dealer popularly known as ‘black-marketer’ was reportedly shot dead in the stomach by unknown assailants at Community One in Tema.
The deceased, Ali Salifu, was said to have been invited by the assailants last Saturday to an obscure place together with a colleague, whose name was given as Abdualai, under the pretext of changing money when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Sources close to the Community One District Police Station told DAILY GUIDE that the assailants pointed a gun at Ali and Salifu and were asked to surrender their personal belongings including the money worth over three thousand Ghana Cedis.
Ali was said to have refused to comply with the orders of the suspected armed robbers and attempted to escape when one of the perpetrators shot him in the stomach and took away their monies which were in different currencies including cell phones.
Ali was rushed to the Tema General Hospital after the robbers had left with the monies. However, he was pronounced dead upon arrival by medics at the hospital.
The case was later lodged at the Community One Police Station, where it is currently under investigation. The Tema Regional Police Command, which has taken charge of the case, refused to comment on the issue when contacted by DAILY GUIDE . They, however, confirmed the incident.
Black Market business is booming for illegal dealers, especially at Community One which is fast becoming the popular centre of ‘black-marketing’ where the illegal business is being dominated by foreigners who pay no tax to government.
