Czech Ambassador calls for cultural exchange

The Czech Ambassador, Margita Fuchsova has called for closer collaboration in the area of arts and culture between Ghana and her country.

She made the call during a courtesy call on the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare in Accra.

A statement from the Ministry and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said Ghana is endowed with great historical and cultural monuments and it would be great for the two countries to partner in knowledge sharing in that area.

Madam Fuchsova said culture is the base and module on which countries develop and both countries need to build on the high level of co-operation in that area because the Czech Republic has a great cultural history.

She proposed a familiarisation tour for Czech Republic tour operators and media to help create awareness for Ghana’s fascinating tourism attractions to the Czech tourism market.

Madam Fuchsova recounted Ghana’s long existing relations with the Czechoslovakia under Ghana’s first President Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

She said: "There is a cultural fund of which Ghana’s culture and creative arts industry can access to help build capacity.”

Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare welcomed the call and re-emphasised the importance of culture and tourism in national development.

She said her Ministry would start the administrative process in accessing the culture fund to help build the capacity for the Creative Arts practitioners, adding the Czech Republic is one of the countries Ghana is going to partner in developing its culture and exchanging ideas.

Mrs Ofosu-Adjare said plans are underway for envoys to participate in the next Akwasidae Festival in Kumasi where diplomats would get to experience some aspects of Ghanaian culture.

She said the Ministry would facilitate a familiarisation tour for travel writers from Czech Republic as part of marketing and promotion of Destination Ghana.
