Czech diplomat injured in holdup

The Czech consul in Ghana was injured on the last day of his mission when armed robbers entered his car at a stop light in downtown Accra.

The attackers slashed the consul with a machete and robbed him, the Czech newspaper, Mladá fronta Dnes, reports.

A car bearing Czech consul Ond?ej Soukup and two other members of the Czech Embassy was attacked on the way back from a dinner party in the capital city of Accra on Sunday night.

The group did not notice that the automatic locks on the car's doors were not working, and two men armed with machetes broke into the vehicle when it stopped at a red light.

The hold up was not a targeted attack but a random holdup, but the men had no valuables on them.

The consul received a machete cut on his hand that required six stitches. He is expected to return to the Czech Republic today.
