The Graphic says the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has given an ultimatum to Makola Number Two traders to move to the new Agbogloshie Market or face ejection. In a lead story headlined: "Ultimatum to Makola Number Two traders: Move or be ejected", the Graphic says the AMA has given the remaining traders in the Old Makola Number Two Market in Accra up to Sunday August 31 to vacate and move to the New Makola Number Two Market at Agbogbloshie. The story says the AMA made it clear that if the traders refused to comply with the directive, force will be used to eject them. The Assembly said trading activities in the old market will cease on Monday September 1. According to the Graphic the AMA's decision follows the recommendations of a 16-member ah-hoc committee to look into the impasse between the traders and the Assembly which has resulted in the refusal of the traders to move to the new market. The Graphic also carries on its front page the Speaker, Mr Justice Daniel Francis Annan's call on the church organisations and political groups to come together as partners in the development of the material and spiritual needs of the society. According to the Graphic, the Speaker who was opening the 16th Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Accra at Tema yesterday, said the era when the church distanced itself from state and acted as critics of the political leadership should be a thing of the past. Mr Justice Annan said both political and religious organisations should be actively involved in the nation's attempt at evolving an appropriate democratic governance for the country. GRI

"Government to repair houses...in conflict areas", is a back page story in the Graphic which says the government is to provide additional 1bC to help rehabilitate houses destroyed during the ethnic conflict in the Northern Region. The Graphic says the Deputy Minister of Works and Housing, Alhaji Amadu Seidu announced this at Yendi during a courtesy call on the Yendi Distric Chief Executive last Wednesday as part of his five-day inspection tour of the Northern Region. The Deputy Minister, the Graphic says, also assured the people that a number of boreholes will be provided for each community in the country to ensure the elimination of all water-borne diseases. GRI
