The Graphic, in its lead story says the Minister responsible for Foreign Affairs, Mr Kwamena Ahwoi, has urged the country's foreign mission representatives to make judicious use of national resources in the course of duty. In a banner headline: "Ahwoi advises new envoys: No more spending Spree", the Graphic quoted the Minister as saying that the diplomatic missions must be run in the most cost-effective manner in line with the government efforts to cut-down on expenditure. Mr Ahwoi made the call when he opened a two-week induction seminar for 18 newly-appointed Ambassadors and High Commissioners in Accra yesterday. GRI
"Video operator to stand trial for murder", is the headline of another Graphic front page story which says a 35-year-old video operator, Kwabena Osei Bonsu, who allegedly murdered his mother-in-law in order to gain access to her properties, is to be committed to stand trial before an Accra High Court. Police sources said committal proceedings are due this week at the Osu Community Tribunal. Quoting police sources the Graphic says Bonsu, alias Peace, had been staying with Madam Christiana Hansen, an elderly woman, by virtue of his sister's marriage to her son. GRI
The Graphic reports on its back page that the Methodist Conference has called on the government to take steps to discourage any further growth of the gambling industry in the country. "Gambling may bring revenue to the nation, but that cannot be a justification when weighed against the damage gambling causes the individual gambler, the family and the nation as a whole", the Graphic quoted the Conference as saying. The call was contained in a communique issued at the 36th annual conference of the church at Cape Coast. GRI
