The story says Alhaji Bawumia has called on regional ministers and regional security councils to take steps to nib in bud the offset of violence in various parts of the country.
In another front page story, the Graphic reports that district assembly and unit committee elections are to be held throughout the country on the same day in May 1998. This was announced by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr. Kwamena Ahwoi at Tamale. The specific date is yet to be announced.
The Graphic also reports that the Abura Dunkwa Police in the Central Region have intercepted 11 truck-loads of timber logs valued at more than 10 million cedis being conveyed from parts of the Ashanti and Central regions for sale without documents from the Forestry Department.
The Graphic reports that the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has called on Parliament to institute a judicial inquiry into recent police operations at Akwatia, Tarkwa and Nima. In a front page banner headline: "Recent Police operations at Nima Akwatia, Tarkwa...GBA Calls for Probe", the Graphic says the GBA has also called on the Legislature to take remedial steps to avoid the repetition of any anomalies in such operations in future.
In a centre spread story, the Graphic reports a Lecturer in Psychology and Counselling at the University of Cape Coast as stating that it is no use wasting time, energy and resources to train students into a profession whose job market is already saturated.
