Freshly-published Ghanaian author, Rodney Nkrumah-Boateng has been announced as the latest guest reader for the National Book Reading Campaign.

Dubbed DAkpabli Readathon, the initiative seeks to promote book reading for pleasure as well as local authorship across Ghana.

Rodney Nkrumah-Boateng, popularly known as the Facebook MP, was announced at a brief ceremony in Accra yesterday. He is the fourth guest in the programme.

“I deem it an honour to join the list of great writers such as Elizabeth-Irene Baitie, Ruby Goka and Alba Sumprim. I just can’t wait to hit the road with the team.”

During his guest-tenure, Rodney who currently works in the office of the Minister of Education is expected to feature along the main Readathon stars, Nana Awere Damoah and Kofi Akpabli in their public reading activities for the next three months. Besides holding a public reading event in Accra, the trio will also road-show to Kumasi in July where Rodney has a strong following.

According to Nana Awere Damoah, co-founder of the DAkpabli Readathon, the guest author will connect seamlessly with online audiences, a key constituent in the national literary landscape.

“Incidentally, Rodney is our first male guest reader. And we are excited to see how the chemistry plays out in an all-male squad,” Damoah added.

Rodney has just launched his third book FaceOff with the International ‘MP’ at Christ the King Parish Hall in Accra. The event drew a large group of public figures and lovers of literature, including His Excellency Mike Oquaye Jnr.

(Ghana’s High Commissioner-designate to India), Madam Christine Churcher (former MP and Minister for Science and Environmental Protection), Dr. Victor Bampoe (former Deputy Minister for Health), Kofi Bentil (Vice President, IMANI) and socialite/popular radio & TV personality Kwesi Kyei Darkwa (KKD).

FaceOff with the International ‘MP’ quickly climbed to the 7th position on the Amazon Africa Travel Books Category, two weeks after being placed. On the DAkpabli train, Rodney is expected to thrill fans with readings from his other books, Abrokyir Nkomo and Swords and Crosses.
