DCE not for sale- Wontumi

Wontumi has disclosed that MMDCE positions are not being offered to the highest bidder. Wontumi has disclosed that MMDCE positions are not being offered to the highest bidder.

The Ashanti Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated emphatically that it is not offering the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) positions in the region for sale, as being spread around.

Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Wontumi, the regional chairman of the party, has therefore urged party faithful to disregard reports that the MMDCE positions are being offered to the highest bidder.

According to him, the regional branch of the party, led by him, doesn’t have the sole authority in the selection of the MMDCEs, therefore the rumour is a hoax.

There have been reports that the Ashanti Regional executives of the NPP has started demanding monies from party people that have the ambition of becoming MMDCEs in their localities.

The wild speculation even indicated that colossal amount of money, hovering around GH¢100,000, is being demanded from interested people.

The move is said to have angered some of the party supporters, who feel that they have been used and dumped by the party after winning power.

Wontumi, who sounded very angry, challenged anyone who has proof that the MMDCE positions in the region are being offered for sale to quickly come out publicly and mention the names of those involved.

“The regional executives of the party are noble men and women with high integrity therefore, I can boldly state that none of them will indulge in shameful acts such as the sale of MMDCE positions,” he said.

According to him, the regional executives can only suggest a person for consideration for appointment, noting that the presidency has the sole right in appointing the MMDCEs.

He said on Nhyira FM that the regional executives can never impose anyone on any district as the DCE.

Wontumi called for calm in the party as President Akufo-Addo continues to select people into his administration, noting that competent people would form the NPP government.

“President Akufo-Addo cannot appoint all of us into his government. He is carefully selecting the best from a pool of competent men and women so we should all support him to succeed,” he appealed.

He charged the NPP supporters across the country to solidly support President Akufo-Addo and his appointees so that they would quickly turn Ghana’s fortunes around.
