DCE orders probe into the escape of a driver

Breman Asikuma (C/R), Sept 10, GNA- Mr Sampson Kwame Anfako, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa has ordered the District Police Commander, DSP Mohamed Fuseini to investigate the circumstances which led to the escape of a driver arrested with sawn timber by police at Breman Brakwa.

The DCE said on Monday September 7, 2004, he intercepted a DAF Truck loaded with sawn timber that had got stuck in mud on the Brakwa-Odoben road.

Mr Anfako who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Breman Asikuma he drove back to Brakwa Police Station and asked for two police personnel and took them to the scene.

He said he and his entourage were at the scene when the truck was pulled out from the mud, adding that the two armed policemen, took over the vehicle before he left the scene.

The DCE said he quickly rushed to Breman Asikuma Police Commander and informed him to dispatch additional personnel to assist the two policemen and bring the driver and sawn timber to the police station. Mr Anfako said later he had information that the driver had escaped with the sawn timber.

The DCE said he strongly suspected foul play between the Asikuma and Brakwa Police for the escape of the driver.

When DSP Feseini was contacted he confirmed the story that the driver and sawn timber had disappeared

The District Police Commander said he has ordered the Station Officer to make efforts to re arrest the driver and process him for court.
