DCE threatens to break into newly completed school block

The District Chief executive for the Bosumtwi District in the Ashanti Region Veronica Antwi Adjei has threatened to break into a fully constructed school building which has been closed for a year, awaiting finishing and commissioning.

Her resolve follows Ultimate Radio’s report that Pupils of Aputuegya D/A primary school have been compelled to study under trees while their school block remains locked over issues of contract payment and government commissioning.

Ultimate radio’s Joseph Oppong Brenya who visited the school gathered that the contractor who worked on the building had refused to hand over the building to the authorities citing non-payment of his contract sum.

Earlier, the headmistress of the school claimed the pupils were under trees because the newly constructed building had yet to be commissioned.

However, speaking to Ultimate Radio, the DCE of the area, Veronica Antwi Adjei contended the contractor had turned down all her requests that the keys be released for the pupils to occupy the building until all arrears owed him were paid.

“At least he should just deliver the project and demand his money because at every stage of the project contractors go to demand their money. I don’t know why this man is complaining bitterly that he has not been paid for some time,” she complained profusely.

She indicated that all efforts to trace the contractor had also proved futile.

She however assured she was going to seek permission from the police to enable her break the locks to the building, so the school kids can use the block.
