DCE urged GES to make study of history a core subject

Achinakrom (Ash), Feb 12, GNA - Mr Yaw Ahenkora Afrifa, Ejisu-Juaben District Chief Executive, has urged the Ghana Education Service to make history a core subject in all second cycle institutions. He explained that the study of the subject would enable the future leaders know the true history of the country and appreciate the important roles their forefathers played towards the development of the country so as not to repeat the negative aspects of it.

Mr Afrifa was delivering a lecture on "Ghana's March to Independence - Historical Perspective" to the staff and students of Achinakrom Secondary School in the Ejisu-Juaben at the weekend as part of programme to mark Ghana@50 celebration in the district. He said some students could not re-tell events that led to Ghana's independence because most of them did not study history that is the centre of every nation's past events.

The DCE appealed to Ghanaian historians to put down the rich history of the country for the incoming generation to use as reference to make them more patriotic and responsible.

Mr Takyi Yeboah, the Assistant Headmaster of the school, appealed to the district assembly for furniture because enrolment has increased.
