Konkrompe (B/A) Sept. 27, GNA - Mr. Daniel Kwame Danso, Chairman of the Unit Committee at Konkrompe, a farming community in the Nkoranza District has appealed to Mr. James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah, District Chief Executive, to intervene for the resolution of a protracted chieftaincy dispute in the area.
Mr. Danso made the appeal in a welcoming address on behalf of the community when the DCE paid a familiarization visit to the area. He said the dispute had existed for the past 30 years and was Stalling development in the community.
The Unit Committee Chairman explained that after the death of the former Chief, Nana Kwadwo Mensah, members of the royal family had not been able to select a successor as the two clans of the family were contesting the stool.
Mr. Danso expressed concern about the issue, saying but for the efforts of the Committee, which had been organizing the people for communal labour there would not have been any development in the area. Mr. Danso, who is also the Head teacher of the local primary school, appealed to the District Assembly to provide the community with a six-classroom block to enhance education.
He said the people constructed a three-classroom block for the school about 15 years ago but a rainstorm ripped the roof of the building.
Mr. Danso commended the government for providing the school with furniture and a KVIP place of convenience to promote sanitation.
Mr. Appiah-Awuah expressed regrets about the number of chieftaincy disputes in the traditional area and stated that it was time the people came together to ensure development.
He noted that the government, Non governmental Organisations and the Assembly would not waste resources on development in areas with disputes and promised to interact with the Omanhene of Nkoranza, Okatakyie Agyeman Kudom IV, for a resolution of chieftaincy disputes. The DCE called on the youth to come together, irrespective of their political affiliations to undertake development projects to improve the standard of living of the people.
Mr. Appiah-Awuah advised them to do away with promiscuity to avoid HIV/AIDS.
Nana Akua Anto, Queenmother of the area, stressed the need for unity among the youth to move the community forward.
