DDE appeals for assistance for orphan with brain tumour

Mankranso (Ash), Dec. 30, GNA - Mr Sampson Amofa-Krah, Ahafo-Ano South District Director of Education, has made a passionate appeal to the public to assist a pupil of the Bonkwaso Local Authority Junior Secondary School, who has a brain tumour to undergo surgery at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

He said the girl, Beatrice Biyaa, an orphan, was among needy pupils in the district who had benefited from government's assistance to the poor and needy pupils in schools.

Unfortunately, however, Mr Amofa-Krah said Miss Biyaa had been found to have a brain tumour, which was being handled by the Neurosurgeon at KATH and would need the support of the public to enable her pay for the cost of operation.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Mankranso on efforts being made to help needy students in the district, he said the Neurosurgeon has not as yet come out with the cost of her operation.

The District Director of Education announced that the government had provided 111 million cedis to procure and distribute school materials to needy pupils in the district.

Mr Amofa-Krah said a total of 1,187 pupils benefited from the distribution of materials, which ranged from exercise books, tricycles, armpit clutches, reading glasses, school uniforms, school bags, pens, erasers, rulers, water bottles and others.

He urged all stakeholders in education to pay serious attention to their children's education to enable them develop their God-given potentials to become respectable and dependable future leaders.
