DDE warns teachers against examination malpractices

Akuma (B/A), April 19, GNA - Mr Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, Nkoranza District Director of Education has warned that, any Junior Secondary School (JSS) teacher in the area, who would assist students to cheat in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) would be made to face the law.

Mr Agyemang-Badu was addressing teachers, parents and community leaders of Akuma in the Nkoranza District of Brong Ahafo Region at a forum to educate them on the causes and effects of examination malpractices.

He expressed grave concern about how such malpractices had led some people into prison and advised teachers not to engage in the practice. The District Director called on the teachers to do extra work in the schools and to assist their students to acquire better grades that would enable them to further their education to the senior secondary schools.

Mr Agyemang-Badu appealed to parents not to over burden their children with household chores and should allow them to have adequate time to study and prepare for the examination. The District Girls' Education Officer, Miss Sophia Adalingeah commented on the annual poor performance of girls in the BECE in the district.

She urged the teachers to organise special quiz competitions for the girls to sharpen their minds in all the examinable subjects and to prepare them adequately for the examination. She urged the girls education officers in the schools to monitor the movements of the girls and to offer them career counselling to become useful to society in future.

Mr Ahmed Gyabaa, Assemblyman of the area announced that the chiefs and the unit committees of the communities in the district would lead an educational campaign to inform both parents and students on the issues discussed at the forum.

The chief of the area, Nana Effah Ababio expressed gratitude to the District Director of Education for organising the forum to educate the people to guard against negative practices that could create problems for them and also affect education in the area.
