New Edubiase (Ash), June 22, GNA - The Department for International Development (DFID) of the United Kingdom (UK) has presented educational materials to 50 needy pupils in the Adansi East district.
The girls were selected for the support after an awareness creation programme on girl-child education in 20 selected committees. They were given school uniforms, exercise books, writing materials and school bags.
Presenting the items to the beneficiaries at New Edubiase on Monday, Mrs Janet Adutwumwaa Boakye, the Adansi East District Girl-Child Education Officer, advised parents to take keen interest in the education of their daughters because they were the future leaders of the country.
She told parents that gone were the days when women were confined to the kitchen and said now girls can compete favourably with their boys counterparts to attain the highest on the education ladder. Mrs Boakye therefore urged girls to aim at the highest pinnacle and fight for leadership positions but pointed out that they could only do this if they take their studies seriously.
She also urged teachers in the beneficiary schools to assist in monitoring the progress of the beneficiaries to find out how the assistance was helping them. 22 June 04
