DOCUMENT: NPP Salutes Kofi Annan

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) feels greatly honoured to congratulate Mr. Kofi Annan, Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) for winning the Nobel Peace Prize with the Organisation that he heads.

Mr. Annan's principal contribution to the UN's thinking since he became the Secretary General has been an insistence on humility, realism and logic. In the search for answers to the numerous problems that have confronted the peoples and nations of the world, he has refused consistently to be bullied and also to permit myopic thinking to intrude upon objective judgment.

Indeed, the NPP is happy to note that in his usual self-effaced manner, Kofi Annan has served the UN with unalloyed idealism, untainted by unnecessary romanticism and dealt with the issues in the field of human rights, poverty, HIV/AIDS, conflict resolution and humanitarian efforts with distinction.

The NPP wishes and hopes that as the ensuing years bring more honour not only to himself and family, but also to Ghana and Africa, Kofi Annan would continue to serve the world with honour, but not for honour.
