DOVVSU honours GNA for consistency in promoting its activities

Accra, May 24, GNA - The National Secretariat of Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service has honoured the Ghana News Agency (GNA) for consistency in promoting activities of the Unit.

In a citation it said: "The Ghana News Agency has been consistent in its promotion of the work of DOVVSU. The GNA which has reporters nationwide has been one of the fastest and most reliable mediums of transmitting information nationwide.

"DOVVSU has benefited immensely from its services especially in cases that demand urgent attention but without willing complainants. Coverage of DOVVSU's programmes in the wider media circle can be attributed to the handwork of GNA, the only wireless news channel in Ghana."

"In recognition of its consistent support in the effort of DOVVSU, the management of DOVVSU on behalf of the Ghana Police Service presents this citation as a token of appreciation."

The GNA was honoured at its Annual Partners Review Get-together in Accra.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Alice Awarekaro, Finance Officer of DOVVSU, presented the honour to the News Editor, Mr Mawusi Afele. DSP Awarekaro thanked the GNA for being available at short notice to provide adequate coverage for DOVVSU's activities.

Mr Afele noted that domestic violence was assuming alarming proportions and needed to be tackled on all fronts.

He said the GNA would continue to offer its medium in the war against domestic violence and appealed to DOVVSU not to relent in its efforts to bring offenders to book.

The get-together was to review DOVVSU's performance in the previous year with its stakeholders and partners in order to bridge the gap and renew partnership for the ensuing year.
