The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), as part of efforts to bring its services to the doorsteps of clients, has launched an express mobile van service to enhance its operations.

The introduction of the express mobile van service, which will start operations next week, is expected to augment services provided by the 27 operational centers of the authority across the country and help curb the activities of middle men (Gorro boys) in the issuance of licenses to customers.

Ing. Noble J. Appiah, Chief Executive of DVLA, speaking at the launch, said although not all the services will be offered on the express mobile van, acquisition of learner driver’s license, renewal of learner driver’s license and issuance of international driving permit would be covered.

Renewal of driver’s license, issuance of duplicate license, replacement of driver’s license, conversion of foreign driver’s license and the upgrading of driver’s license will be provided to customers on the mobile vans.

He said the express mobile van service will be available to target groups like corporate institutions, associations, tertiary institutions, organized drivers union and any other recognized groups or institutions with 20 or more people, who want to patronize the services of the DVLA but cannot make time to visit its office.

“We are starting in the Greater Accra and Western Regions and will move from there to other parts of the country as we get more vans onboard,” Ing. Appiah said.

“When you go to our office, you pay GH¢20 for service charge but when the van comes to your facility, the service charge is GH¢90 per head,” he explained.

Ing. Appiah said the service fees have been increased on the van because of the cost of maintaining the vans and equipment and personnel that would operate the vans at various locations.
