Prince Opoku Edusei, the Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Operations at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, has announced plans by the authority to digitise its processes in the near future.

Addressing the media during the 25th anniversary of the DVLA, Opoku Edusei stated that the aim of this initiative is to make their services more convenient and less cumbersome for Ghanaians.

“Indeed, we have started on a digitalisation path and it is a forward-looking agenda. We are going forward into the future with more digitalisation and we expect to digitalise most, if not all, our processes within the few years ahead. We want to see a DVLA where you sit in the comfort of your home, pick up your phone, go on an app and you can apply, make payment for and complete every DVLA service,” he said.

According to him, customers of the authority will only need to have their biometric details captured to facilitate the smooth rollout of the digitalisation initiative.

“All perhaps you’ll need to do is to come to our office on an appointment for us to take your biometric details and maybe capture you, that is all. And then deliver the product or service to you at your doorstep. That is the DVLA that we envision,” he said.

He added that the DVLA will soon introduce products and services to support the implementation of the digitalisation drive.

“We see a DVLA where someday, you may be driving and a system will pick up your number plate and then the law enforcement agencies or the authorities through that process can tell who you are, where you are and where to find you, in case there is any problem on the road, and so, going into the future, we are rolling out products and services that will meet this vision we have set for ourselves,” he added.

Also speaking at the same event, the Chief Executive Officer of DVLA, Kwasi Agyeman Busia, commended the transformative nature of the institution from being labelled as the most corrupt institution in the past to now being awarded as the best in administrative policy reform in public sector.
