Daasebre Dwamena arrives back home

Accra, May 16, GNA - Ghanaian highlife musician, Daasebre Dwamena arrived back home on Tuesday to a rousing welcome by hundreds of fans and friends after being cleared of illicit drug trafficking charges by a London court.

Daasebre, who had been in prison custody in London since his arrest on June 19 last year hardly had any space to himself, as he was surrounded by a large number of friends, family members and well wishers upon arrival at the Kotoka International Airport aboard a British Airways flight.

The top musician, flanked by his wife, beamed with smiles as more than a dozen photographers swarmed all around him with several people including some arriving passengers heartily taking pictures with him. When he arrived at the main "meeters and greeters" point to make his final exit from the main airport building, the huge crowd of well wishers and fans got into frenzy and security personnel had to send him back into the airport premises after which he was whisked away secretly for his own safety.

Even then, some members of the crowd got wind of this arrangement and managed to catch a glimpse of their idol.

While on his way to Germany last year for the release of his fifth album, Daasebre was arrested in transit at Heathrow Airport in London and charged with the illegal importation of narcotic drugs into the UK. Daasebre denied ownership of the substance which was said to weigh about two kilograms with a street value of almost 84,000 pounds. Some of Daasebre's famous hits that sprang unto the Ghanaian music scene in the latter part of 1990s include "You Can't Touch Me", "Ahoofe" and "I beg".
