Daily Graphic reporter Mark-Anthony Vinorkor has been charged for contempt of parliament, according to Starr FM’s Parliamentary correspondent Kobby Gomez Mensah.
The charge is based on his publication in the state-owned newspaper on the CI 94 which takes care of the upcoming elections.
The reporter will go through the same processes Blakk Rasta was subjected to and appear before the Bar of the House for sanctions.
He is also expected to render an unqualified apology to the House, purging himself of contempt charge.
Graphic communication group will also be made to render an unqualified apology to the House and print three apologies in their print and electronic media at the paper's cost.
Background
Parliament on July 15, banned Vinokor from reporting on Parliamentary activities over an inaccurate publication.
He put up a reportage in the national newspaper on one of parliament’s activities which the House deemed inaccurate.
He reported that an earlier CI 94 laid before the Chamber had been withdrawn and a new one re-laid.
The report added that a new clause was introduced in article 44 of the CI 94 which takes care of punishment of potential and existing electoral officers.
It stated that offenders will be sanctioned to a spot fine of 500 penalty units and or two years imprisonment. The victim may subsequently not be permitted to take part in any elections-related activities for five years.
But Parliament described Vinokor’s report as inaccurate and asked him to retract and apologise for the publication. His company, Daily Graphic apologized for the publication but Vinokor is yet to personally apologise to the Lawmakers.
His accreditation was withdrawn until further notice following the publication and was made to undertake a bond of good behavior in his professional practice.
