Dampong (Ash), Sept. 14, GNA - Dampong, a farming community near Asankare in the Asante Akim South District on Wednesday inaugurated a 100,000 pounds Senior High School (SHS) in renewed efforts to boost education in the area.

Amidst dancing and cultural displays, the people expressed their excitement about the school, which they considered a major breakthrough in their quest for increased access to second cycle education in the area.

The school, which is to serve Dampong and its surrounding communities including Asankare, Asuboa and Kwaben was funded by Asante Akim Community Organisation (AACO) in the United Kingdom and a network of partners.

Madam Akosua Arkhurst, Leader of AACO, said the project was in fulfilment of their plans to help uplift standard of education in the district.

She said quality education was vital to eliminate poverty, especially in the rural areas and called on stakeholders to join in efforts to achieve the set goals. Madam Arkhurst commended the chiefs and people in the community for providing land and communal labour, saying it demonstrated their preparedness for the project.

Mr Fabian Belieb, District Director of Education, pointed out that the establishment of the school was timely with the introduction of the new educational reforms and called on parents to enrol their wards in school.
