Ada Foah, July 04, GNA --The Dangme East District Chief Executive, Mr Israel Narh Boako, has announced that plans are far advanced for the establishment of Information Technology Centre (ICT), to enhance the training of ICT in the District.
At the celebration of the 2005-2006 Dangme East Best Teacher Awards, the DCE explained that, "we are now in a global village where technologies are being advanced day in and day out hence the need to establish the centre in the area to ensure that everybody have access to ICT training."
The celebration was under the theme: "Teachers, as Agents of Dissemination in the school child."
He however, promised to ensure that the centre immediately after its construction would be supplied with computers and experts for successful take-off.
To ensure effective learning and teaching in the area, Mr Narh Baako also announced that the assembly is constructing more classroom blocks whiles 231 teacher trainees have been sponsored to come back after their education to teach in the District. The assembly, he added is also undertaking electrification and water project to make remote areas comfortable to live and to make those areas attractive for teachers who would be posted there. The District Director of Education, Mrs Comfort Regina Ametame said due to the hard work of some devoted teachers the District was successful in the 2003 Basic Education Certificate Examination. She said in spite of the fact that some children are still not in school, the enrolment of pupils shot up from 18,000 in 2005 to 22,000 this year.
She cautioned teachers to desist from deviant behaviours like absenteeism, drunkenness, sexual immorality or face the full rigors of the law.
The award winners received table top refrigerators, gas cookers and cylinders as well as television sets.
