Data base project for Asokwa launched

Kumasi, June 24, GNA - Madam Patricia Appiagyei, the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) on Thursday launched a database project for revenue mobilization for the Metropolis. The project, code named; "Logo South Project" would be supported by the Almere Municipality of Netherlands as part of the international sister city relations between the two cities.

Addressing chiefs and residents to launch the project, Madam Appiagyei said apart from revenue generation the project is aimed at building the capacities of staff and members of the Assembly. She called on those who would be in charge of the project to work assiduously to assist the Assembly to increase its revenue generation to meet its development efforts.

Madam Appiagyei indicated that the project, which would be extended later to other parts of the Metropolis would be focused on property rates, business permits and fines.

She called on residents and business organizations and entrepreneurs to fulfill their tax obligations to enable the Assembly improve its internally generated funds.

Mrs. Annemarie Jorristma, Mayor of the Almere Municipality, who led a delegation from Holland to the launch expressed her appreciation of the relations between the two cities. She said they were happy to be in the country again and had visited many projects they were supporting including development of schools and economic projects.

She hoped the data base project would go a long way to promote the exchange and cordial relations between the two cities, adding, however that the data base system was very crucial for KMA. She pointed out that if the system was well operated, it would cater for itself in promoting the socio-economic development of the city. There was a photo exhibition mounted on Almere projects from 1996-2006 in the Metropolis.

Nana Febaa Amoah, chief of Asokwa expressed the hope that residents would support the project to attract more development projects to the area.
