June is here and by an act of divinity coupled with measures by the government, people are still alive.

The coronavirus may have taken the lives of 36 Ghanaians (may their souls rest in peace) but it has certainly not been as rampaging as initially feared.

Fears of the virus claiming lives and plundering the country and the entire world into a state of hopelessness and grief were rife as seen in the popularity of the infamous by ‘By June de33 ……..’ mantra.

As restrictions intensified and confirmed cases of the disease and its attendant death toll soared, the disturbing slogan gain traction. At that rate, it made sense to believe that mantra which literally sort to say by June we all will be dead and the world would have come to an end.

But June is finally here and though life is yet to return to normalcy, the dark clouds that hovered around the country some weeks ago are gradually giving way to hope.

Work has fully resumed, churches can now hold services with at least 100 members and final year students can now dream of graduation.

It is therefore unsurprising that leading the social media trends in Ghana currently is a two-word phrase ‘Dear June’ as messages of praises and adulations are being showered on God for his protection.

Others are also expressing the hope that the last six months of the year will be unlike the first six months which were dominated by the pandemic.
