Death toll in Darmang Ahwearease accident now 18

Nsawam, April 24, GNA- The Nsawam Police have on Friday found another unidentified body in the accident involving members of the Holy Apostolic Church who were burnt to death at Darmang Ahwearease on their way to an Easter convention at Ada Foah.

This brings to 18, the number of people who lost their lives when their bus caught fire after a collision with a pick-up. Speaking with the Ghana News Agency at Nsawam, the Nsawam district police commander Mr James Bruce, said the accident occurred when the driver of the bus with more than 25 passengers on board including children tried to overtake three vehicles.

In the process it collided with an on-coming pick-up from Nsawam direction. The district commander said the driver of the pick-up No. GT 1359B Mr Anthony Cann Tamakloe and a passenger Raphael Bumegbe, who were injured have been treated and discharged by the Nsawam Government Hospital.

Meanwhile the police have identified some of the deceased as Regina Asare, 46, and Abigal Amponsah 16. The police are yet to identify the rest of the corpses after autopsy, the commander added.

Dr Emmanuel Tinkorang medical officer in charge of the hospital said those on admission are responding to treatment.
