A total of 69,000 people in the Volta Region will be served with potable water under a Water Supply Improvement Project funded by the Spain Ghana Debt Swap grant.

The 3.78 million USD project will provide 12 fully reticulated mechanized and six limited mechanized water supply systems for 26 townships within the Ho Municipality, Adaklu, Ho West, and Agotime Ziofe Districts.

The Volta Regional Coordinating Council approved the contract on Tuesday and awarded it in seven lots, following a competitive bidding process.

The companies executing the project are YANDEG Company Limited, DOWIN Limited, and B17-GEO Company Limited.

The rest are VALOOK Construction Works Limited, DENLARRY Construction Works Limited, Bliss Integrated Company Limited, and UNIMENSIL Ventures Limited.

The Community Water and Sanitation Agency would be consulted on the project, expected to be completed by the end of 2018.

Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, Regional Minister, at the signing of the contracts said water remained a major challenge in rural communities.

He said projects such as the Austrian Government’s STARBAG would be supplemented to increase water coverage in the Region to 100,000 people.

Dr Letsa charged the contractors and consultants to provide high quality service and ensure that the project was completed on schedule.
