President John Mahama has cautioned supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to desist from utterances and acts which could lead to violence.

Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, who spoke on behalf of Mr Mahama prior to the NDC’s campaign launch on Sunday, 14 August at the Church of Pentecost, Adisadel Church Auditorium in Cape Coast, Central Region, said: “The fact that we are campaigning does not mean you should go and fight. There are people who in the name of political parties escalate political discourse into violence and the next moment, someone is dead. The President says we should let the whole country know that violence is not important,” he said.

All leading members of the NDC, including President John Mahama, and his vice, Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, as well as former President Jerry John Rawlings, ministers of state and Members of Parliament, are in attendance.

Also, the party expects about 60,000 supporters to be attending the event, which is taking place at the newly-built Cape Coast Stadium.

Security in the area has been beefed up to foil any mishap. At least, over 600 security personnel have been deployed to the area.

NDC paraphernalia are on sale in the area, specifically at the Cape Coast Stadium.
