Deceit on the religious front is alarming – Rev Bio Kyeame

Reverend Kwaku Bio Kyeame, Director of Church Life and Nurture of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), has observed that deceit on the religious front is reaching alarming proportions.

He said as a result Christianity is fast becoming a means of finding answers to the material and physical needs of life.

Rev Bio Kyeame made the observation when addressing the opening session of the three-day 32nd Annual National Delegates’ Conference of the PCG Men’s Fellowship at Bunso in the Eastern Region.

The theme for the Conference was: “The Fruit of the Holy Spirit and the Believer-The Role of Men in the Church Today.”

He pointed out that people flock to churches for what can only be described as “magical oil and water” that supposedly solve all the problems of life, “Sadly, this practice is creeping into the PCG," he said.

“Ministers who are appreciated and sought after are those who anoint people and make people fall down after prayer, who gives ‘akwankyere’ and prophetic words. Whilst the Holy Spirit does these and more in the life of God’s children, the emphasis must be right. Who should help to make an impact and help people to seek the Kingdom of God and its righteous first.”

Rev Bio Kyeame noted that men of the church have been given the unique role because they are supposed to teach and lead their households while the wife is supposed to seek guidance in the things of God from her husband.

He said serious efforts are being made by the leadership of the church on a challenge facing the church when members of the Young Adult Fellowship (YAF) who after attaining some age are not willing to join the Men’s and Women’s Fellowships.

Rev Bio Kyeame therefore appealed to the Committees on Men and Women Ministries to create a welcoming environment for members of YAF to feel at home and contribute their quota to the growth and development of the two bodies.

“We are also putting in place measures to straighten the misconceptions of the YAF members so that they will also be willing to join the Men’s and Women’s Fellowships,” he added.

Lieutenant Colonel Jonas Yaw Asamoah (Retired), National President of the Men’s Fellowship said the theme chosen by the leadership of the church for the year has improved the relationship of members with God, changed their ways of life and set them on the path to Christianity and salvation.

He said the economy is in serious crisis, and most Ghanaians and Christians are not able to meet their financial obligations.

“Let us with one mind pray earnestly for the resuscitation of the economy so that the country would move forward again. We know that the situation is putting more strain on us. We must rise to the occasion in our prayers and seek God’s intervention. Let us stand firm in the faith and God will deliver the country from the doldrums,” Lt Col Asamoah added.
