Pressure group Let My Vote Count Alliance has cast doubts over the ability of the Electoral commission of Ghana to conduct credible polls with less than a week to the general elections. Highlighting challenges that rocked Thursday’s special voting exercise to the media, convener of the group David Asante maintained that the EC is not ready to conduct the 2016 general elections in the expected manner.

According to him, the electoral commission’s poor handling of the exercise suggests a chaotic situation on December 7, a situation he claims can and would give certain politicians the chance to manipulate the system.

He accused EC chair, Charlotte Osei, and Inspector General of Police, John Kudalor of adding on to the number of persons for the special voting exercise.

“ …Fair, open and transparent elections must not be left entirely in the bosom of the IGP and in the bosom of madam Charlotte Osei and the rest of the commissioners who keep exchanging covet communication to pile up names unto the electoral register for special voters…”

David Asante further called on Ghanaians, particularly polling agents, to be vigilant on election day and to resist any attempt of bribery for the purposes of compromising the polls.

“…We are in the days of bribe taking and bribe giving. We are humbly and passionately appealing to political party agents, do not accept any bribe. They will come, but stand firm. Hold your head up high and protect the integrity and sanctity of our election process…”
