Decentralization alert - MLGRD pitches camp in Ho

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD), has pitched camp in Ho as sideshow of the ‘National Cleanup Day,’ slated for Saturday, March 7.

The Volta Region is taking its turn in the nationwide exercise, after the Greater-Accra, Ashanti and Northern Regions.

By convention, the event is to be hosted by one of the 10 regions, to provide the opportunity for the Ministry to know the peculiar environmental challenges in a host region.

Mr Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Deputy Minister of MLGRD, during a courtesy call on Togbe Afede the Fourteenth, Agbogbomefia of Asogli, called it a “multi-level approach,” moving the Centre (MLGRD) to Ho, with some of its top bureaucrats, to answer the questions agitating the minds of the people.

Mr Agyekum said the next level was the opportunity to raise the tempo on education on the forthcoming local level elections, to ignite the interest of the people as candidates and voters.

'The MLGRD has moved to Ho for you to ask all the questions, get to the people, as two teams tour the districts, one to the north the other to the south to inspect projects, ' he stated.

Togbe Afede said the low turn-out at local level elections “is not a good commentary,” and that “if Assembly Members must represent us, then majority of the people must show interest.”

The MLGRD's temporary satellite office in Ho will operate from the offices of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC).
