Decision on "perchers" is not official

Non-residential students of the University of Ghana, who were squatting on campus and faced an ejection threat, can now heave a sigh of relief because the threat has turned out to be without authority.

Professor Edward Ofori-Sarpong, pro-vice chancellor, said in an interview that the threat to eject squatters did not come from any authority and assured students that ?there is no cause of alarm?.

Dr Vladimir Antwi-Danso, dean of students, told the paper on Tuesday, February 15, 2005, that the university authorities had decided to flush out all squatters from campus in view of increasing utility bills and health problems.

However, some hall tutors and senior members of the university denied that such a decision had been taken.
