Delegation of U.S. Catholic Bishops' Conference Visits Ghana

A delegation of five people from the Migration and Refugee Services (MRS) of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) arrives in the country today on a two-day official visit.

A press release from the National Catholic Secretariat in Accra, said the delegation comprises Bishops John Kinney of Minnesota and Robert Brucato of New York and Rev. Anthony McGuirre, Director for Pastoral Care and Migrants and Refugees. The rest are Mr. Mark Franken, Executive Director of Migrants and Refugee Services and Mrs. Bernadette Cisse, Refugee Policy Advisor.

According to Mr. David Orth-Moore, Country Representative of the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) the objective of the visit is to obtain the information needed to make recommendations to stakeholders regarding the resettlement in the US of certain long-stayer refugees, including the vulnerable populations of separated children and women -at-risk.

The delegation will follow-up on issues related to Liberian and Sierra Leonian refugees and hold discussions with officials of the US Embassy, UNCHR and the Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference.
